From here, the events of Aftermath are set to begin, with Liu Kang setting his sights on fixing the timeline that Kronika has broken. After the battle, Raiden divides himself from Liu Kang, now mortal, and informs him that he is now to take on his mantle as a God and defender of Earthrealm. He turns her into a glass statue with one of his flame blasts and then topples her so that she shatters. With the combined powers of both himself and Raiden, Liu Kang is able to defeat Kronika finally. Desperate to defeat Liu, Kronika absorbs her daughter, Cetrion, and transfers them both back to the pre-historic era to continue their fight. This process combines all versions of Liu Kang as well as Raiden, resulting in Fire God Liu Kang.įire God Liu Kang is now immortal, as Raiden was previously, and continues the assault on Kronika by engaging her in battle. Raiden is able to defeat him, but in a shocking turn of events proclaims that he seeks to save him instead and proceeds to grab hold of Revenant Liu Kang. Revenant Liu Kang, now powered up by the soul of his alternate, intercepts Raiden and engages him in battle. Meanwhile, Raiden is leading an assault on Kronika's hold to rescue Liu Kang and defeat her. While in the custody of Kronika, Liu Kang has his soul absorbed by the revenant version of himself and becomes a lifeless shell. He proceeds to transcend his anger and move forward alongside Liu Kang to take down Kronika and her revenant allies, but not before she intervenes and abducts Liu Kang. Raiden has visions of alternate timelines during this interaction in which he sees himself fighting with Liu Kang and comes to the realization that this has all happened before and is exactly what Kronika wants from him. ![]() This theme culminates in a battle between Liu Kang and Raiden after he uses Shinnok's Amulet on the younger incarnation of Scorpion. While some characters don't survive in this timeline change (like the older Sonya Blade, who dies in the story's opening skirmish in Netherrealm) most exist in contrasting dualities to each other, which leads to some very interesting interactions. Seeing an imbalance between good and evil, Kronika tries to reset the timeline once again to erase Raidens interference. Kronika disrupts the timeline, causing incarnations of the series' fighters to appear both young and old, corrupted (Revenant) and uncorrupted.
